When it comes to your eye health, misinformation can lead to bad habits and long-term damage. There are plenty of myths out there about vision—some you've probably believed for years!
So, in the spirit of April Fools earlier this week, we’re separating fact from fiction and busting some of the biggest eye health myths. Don’t let yourself be fooled—your vision depends on it!

Myth 1: Eating Carrots Will Give You Perfect Vision

False! While carrots contain vitamin A, which is essential for eye health, they won't magically improve your vision or stop you from needing glasses. A balanced diet with leafy greens, fish and nuts is just as important for maintaining eye health.
Myth 2: Reading in Dim Light Ruins Your Eyes

False! Reading in low light might make your eyes work harder, causing temporary strain and fatigue, but it won’t cause permanent damage. If your eyes feel tired, take breaks and ensure you have adequate lighting.
Myth 3: Staring at Screens Will Damage Your Eyes

Not entirely true! While screens won’t permanently harm your eyesight, prolonged exposure to blue light can cause digital eye strain, dryness, and headaches. To reduce discomfort, try the 20-20-20 rule – every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
Myth 4: Sunglasses Are Only for Summer

False! UV rays are present year-round, even on cloudy days. Exposure to UV light increases the risk of cataracts and eye diseases, so wearing UV-protective sunglasses is essential, no matter the season.
Myth 5: If You Squint, You’ll Damage Your Eyes

False! Squinting is just your eyes trying to focus better. However, if you find yourself squinting often, it may be a sign that you need a new prescription.
