At The Spectacle Factory, our team is at the heart of everything we do. From helping customers find the perfect eyewear to ensuring orders reach clients safely around the world, every member of the team plays an important role in delivering the exceptional service we’re known for.

Today, we’re getting to know Bridget, who brings a wealth of optical experience to the team while helping manage the shipping and administrative side of the business.

Tell us a little about yourself and your background in optics.

I started my journey in optics because I was drawn to the unique mix of healthcare, fashion and technical precision that the industry offers. Over the years, I’ve gained hands-on experience in frame styling, lens technology, fittings and helping patients find solutions that genuinely improve their vision and confidence.

It’s an industry where you’re constantly learning, which keeps things exciting. There are always new innovations in lenses and eyewear, and every customer brings a different challenge or opportunity to help them see and feel their best.

Why did you get into this industry?

I first discovered optics at a young age while working in a family friend’s practice during school holidays. That early experience sparked my interest in the profession and made me realise how fascinating the field of optics really is.

I later went on to study in Bradford to become a Dispensing Optician, and since then I’ve worked in both commercial and independent practices, as well as alongside cataract providers.

Vision is such an important part of everyday life, and being able to improve someone’s clarity and comfort is incredibly rewarding. I also love that eyewear allows for creativity and self-expression — glasses are not just functional, they’re also a personal style statement.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

At The Spectacle Factory, I’m responsible for managing the shipping and administration side of the business, making sure each customer’s journey is smooth and enjoyable from start to finish.

I oversee online orders and coordinate deliveries to ensure customers receive their glasses promptly, whether they’re based locally or internationally.

My favourite moment, though, is when someone puts on their new glasses for the first time and their face lights up — either because they can suddenly see clearly again or because they love how they look. That transformation, whether visual or emotional, never gets old.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

I enjoy staying active and regularly spend time working out at the gym. At weekends, I love exploring new places and spending time with my partner, Paul. One of my favourite things to do is cook together at home, and travelling is also a big passion of mine. I really enjoy discovering new places and experiencing different cultures whenever I get the chance.

What is your favourite frame type and why?

I love a bold acetate frame. Acetate offers rich colours, beautiful depth and excellent durability. It also allows for statement shapes that can really elevate a look. A well-chosen acetate frame can be both practical and a standout accessory, adding personality and style to everyday eyewear.

Do you have a styling tip?

My biggest tip is not to focus solely on matching a frame to your face shape — instead, match it to your personality and lifestyle.

If you’re expressive and love fashion, don’t be afraid to go bold with colour or shape. If you prefer a minimalist look, clean lines and neutral tones might suit you better.

Most importantly, make sure the frame fits properly. Comfort is key, and when glasses fit well, you naturally wear them with confidence. And if I had to choose a frame that reflects my personal style, it would definitely involve a little animal print.
