A Legacy Born in Marseille
In 1985, French designer Jean-François Rey launched his eyewear house in Marseille with a mission: to challenge the status quo of optical design. His philosophy—“elegant transgression”—still guides the brand today. From the beginning, J.F. Rey rejected safe, predictable shapes in favour of bold geometries, inventive materials, and daring colour palettes.
What began as a single designer’s vision has grown into a globally celebrated creative studio, co-led by Jean-François and Artistic Director Joëlle Rey. Together, they have built a reputation for craftsmanship, innovation, and unapologetic individuality - qualities that have made J.F. Rey the most awarded label in SILMO Paris history.
Pioneering Design and Innovation
For four decades, J.F. Rey has redefined what eyewear can be. The studio’s approach fuses architectural precision with artistic expression, using materials such as:
High-grade titanium and stainless steel
Richly patterned acetate
Carbon-wood composites
3D-printed components
Each frame is a testament to the brand’s ability to marry cutting-edge manufacturing with traditional hand-finishing.
Three Iconic Frames That Define the Brand’s Spirit
JF3073 (Allure of Metal Series)

Ultra-thin metal construction with striking contours—light as air but full of character. Perfectly balanced between minimalism and sculptural form.
JF3092

A play of contrast and texture, this model layers bold colourways with fine detailing, resulting in a frame that’s as technically refined as it is visually impactful.
JF3032 (Aviator with 3D-Printed Insert)
A modern reimagining of the aviator silhouette, integrating 3D-printed elements directly into the acetate and metal frame for a futuristic yet wearable finish.
A Creative Crossover: Hideo Kojima × J.F. Rey
In one of the most talked-about eyewear collaborations of recent years, J.F. Rey partnered with Hideo Kojima, the visionary behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding. Together, they designed two limited-edition models—HKxJF01 and HKxJF02—blending bold acetate, precision metalwork, and distinctive, game-inspired detailing.
Each piece came in exclusive packaging by Kojima Productions, making them as much a collectible art object as a pair of glasses. The project reflected J.F. Rey’s ongoing mission to cross creative boundaries and bring new worlds to life through design.
Diverse Collections for the Discerning Wearer
J.F. Rey’s collections are as diverse as the people who wear them. There are sleek, architectural metal frames for lovers of minimalism; vibrant, colour-layered acetates for those who treat eyewear as a statement accessory; and mixed-material hybrids for anyone drawn to engineering and craftsmanship.
These frames speak to art-focused individuals—people who appreciate design integrity, value originality over trend-chasing, and see their glasses as a reflection of their personal creativity. Whether worn in the gallery, the boardroom, or on the street, J.F. Rey eyewear tells the world that its wearer sees things differently.
Looking Ahead
Marking 40 years is more than an anniversary—it’s a reaffirmation of J.F. Rey’s creative independence. The future holds continued exploration of sustainable materials, expanded use of 3D printing, and fresh collaborations that bridge fashion, art, and technology.
For Jean-François Rey and his team, the journey is far from over. As they have done since 1985, they will keep crafting eyewear that is bold, beautiful, and above all—uncompromisingly original.
