Earth Day is more than just a date on the calendar - it’s a global reminder of our collective responsibility to care for the planet. At The Spectacle Factory, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s something we weave into the fabric of our everyday operations, all year round.
On this Earth Day, we’re proud to share the practical steps we’re taking to minimise our environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.

To begin with, our building is powered by clean energy. Thanks to solar panels installed on our premises, we’re able to generate enough energy to power our practice—especially during the sunny summer months. To reduce our energy consumption even further, we also utilise underfloor heating, a more efficient way to warm our space evenly and sustainably.
We also encourage eco-conscious travel. EV charging points are available in our car park, making it easier for customers with electric vehicles to visit us without worry.

Behind the scenes, we take recycling seriously. We recycle all of our paper waste and go one step further with old glasses, which we collect from customers and donate to International Aid. This UK-based charity works to distribute refurbished eyewear to people in developing countries who otherwise wouldn’t have access to vision care. It’s a small gesture that can make a life-changing difference. Also, our Zeiss Visufit system helps reduce lens waste by up to 60%, making each bespoke pair a little kinder to the planet.

When it comes to the products we stock, we’re intentional about who we work with. One of our favourite sustainable eyewear brands that we stock is ECO. Their frames are made from recycled and bio-based materials, and for every frame sold, they plant a tree—over 3.3 million so far! Their mission is to combine great design with a positive environmental impact, and we’re proud to support that. We also stock the Undostrial eyewear Fuse collection which is made from 100% recycled steel and each piece is handmade in Paris combining expert craftmanship with eco-conscious material. Finally, some of our Chloe range is made of recycled acetate and bio-based nylon, aiming to use already existing materials in hopes of achieving sustainability by reusing materials.
Sustainability is a journey, not a destination. While there’s always more to do, we remain committed to finding smarter, greener ways to operate. This Earth Day—and every day—we’ll continue doing our part to create a more sustainable world, one pair of glasses at a time.
