Maui Jim started in 1987 as a small company selling sunglasses on Ka'anapali beach in Lahaina, Maui. Seeing a gap in the market for technology that could protect eyes from intense glare and harmful UV while bringing the brilliant colours of the island to life.
They began their Classic Collection of seven styles, which has now evolved into over 125 styles of sunglasses, all of which are polarized and protect from 100% of harmful UVA and UVB rays, and over 125 styles of prescription glasses.
In 2022, Maui Jim became part of Kering Eyewear, which belongs to the global Luxury group Kering. Kering Eyewear designs, develops and distributes eyewear for a complete and well-balanced portfolio of brands including LINDBERG, Gucci, Cartier, Chloé etc.
All Maui Jim frames are made in Italy and Japan, constructed from the highest quality lightweight materials including nylon, titanium and superior acetate. Maui Jim products are considered high-end luxury in the sunglass market. Maui Jim uses high-quality lens materials, such as ultra-thin glass or lightweight polycarbonate materials, to provide superior optical performance and visual clarity.
Polarised Plus 2 Lens technology
Maui Jim engineered the revolutionary PolarizedPlus2 lens technology which goes beyond sheilding your eyes from glare and harmful UV to also enhance the world's true vivid colours in detail. It comes if 4 different colours:
Neutral Grey: Offers the highest available light reduction for the richest colours and sharpest contract. It's best for bright conditions or when in direct sunlight.
HCL Bronze: This 'High Contrast Lens' provides a beautiful warm tint, excellent for varied, everyday conditions.
Maui Rose: Provides a subtle rose tint with the highest available contrast that's perfect for fast moving sports.
Maui HT: When most lenses would be too dark, this 'High Transmission' lens offers extra contrast and colour. Best for golfing and low light conditions.
The Lens Materials:
Not only do the colours of the lenses affect your vision, the lens material also plays a great part in how you see. In the Polarised Plus 2 Lenses, they offer 5 different types of materials:
1. Super Thin Glass:
SuperThin Glass provides the absolute crispest optics available. 32% thinner and lighter than standard glass, it offers the best scratch resistance.
2. Maui Brilliant:
Maui Jim's most advanced lens material that features optics nearly as clear as glass with just one-third of the weight.
3. Maui Pure:
Our most popular lens material. It combines optics almost as crisp as SuperThin Glass with ultra lightweight and excellent scratch and shatter resistance.
4. Maui Evolution:
Maui Evolution® features the light weight and scratch and shatter resistance of polycarbonate while offering a much higher optical clarity.
5. Maui Pure LT:
MauiPure LT is lighter and 35% thinner than standard MauiPure, and delivers optics nearly as clear as SuperThin Glass with exceptional impact and scratch resistance.
