Eyewear of the Week is the incredible Matsuda M5008 in Antique Gold, transformed with a completely custom geometric lens shape and one of our favourite combinations of colour and technology.

Matsuda is renowned for its meticulous Japanese craftsmanship, and the M5008 is a perfect example. The intricate metalwork and Antique Gold finish give the frame a beautifully aged, almost jewellery-like quality, while the rimless design leaves us with something particularly exciting – the freedom to make the lenses part of the design.

Rather than opting for a conventional lens shape, we created a bespoke geometric shape specifically for this pair. The sharper angles bring a completely different personality to the delicate gold frame, creating a look that feels architectural, distinctive and completely individual.

But the customisation doesn't stop with the shape.

We've fitted Zeiss ClearMind Digital lenses, designed to provide comfortable vision for the demands of modern life, and customised them with an Adaptive Sun Gradient Green.

The green brings a beautiful contrast against the warmth of the Antique Gold. Rather than overpowering the frame, the gradient introduces colour while still allowing all of Matsuda's intricate detailing to remain visible.

Then comes the finishing touch: Ruby Flash.

As the light catches the lenses, flashes of red, pink and violet appear across the green, creating a completely different dimension to the colour. Against the Antique Gold frame, the combination is particularly striking – warm gold, rich green and flashes of ruby all working together rather than competing for attention.

And because these are Adaptive Sun lenses, their appearance isn't static. The lenses respond to changing light conditions, allowing the colour and depth of the finished eyewear to evolve as the wearer moves between different environments.

That's what makes this pair so special. Nothing feels like an afterthought.
