Eyewear of the Week: Matsuda M3101 with Adaptive Sun Lenses
Some glasses are designed to make a statement. Others combine intricate craftsmanship with clever lens technology to create something that's as practical as it is beautiful. This week's Eyewear of the Week is a stunning example of both – the Matsuda M3101 in Palladium, customised for one of our international clients from Singapore.
Matsuda is renowned for its exceptional Japanese craftsmanship, combining traditional techniques with intricate detailing and contemporary design. The M3101 is a beautiful example of this philosophy, with its refined Palladium finish giving the frame a sophisticated, almost jewellery-like quality. It's a design that rewards a closer look, where the smallest details contribute to the overall appearance.
But for this particular pair, we wanted to create something that would be just as impressive through the lenses.
We've paired the frame with ZEISS SmartLife 1.67 lenses, designed to support clear, comfortable vision throughout the day. The 1.67 high-index material also allows for thinner, lighter lenses compared with standard-index alternatives, making it an excellent choice for combining visual performance with refined aesthetics.
For the colour, we've chosen a beautiful ZEISS AdaptiveSun Blue Gradient tint.
The cool blue tones work beautifully against the Palladium finish, creating a combination that feels modern, elegant and effortlessly sophisticated. But unlike a conventional sunglass tint, these lenses have another clever feature.
ZEISS AdaptiveSun lenses automatically adjust their darkness in response to changing light conditions outdoors.
This means they can become darker in brighter sunlight and lighten when conditions are less intense, helping to maintain visual comfort as the environment changes. They also provide UV protection and help reduce glare from bright sunlight.
And for our client in Singapore, where sunshine and bright outdoor conditions are a regular part of everyday life, this technology makes a particularly practical choice.
Whether enjoying time outdoors in strong sunshine or moving into more shaded surroundings, the lenses adapt to changing light levels, offering greater flexibility than a traditional fixed-tint sunglass lens.
But we weren't finished with the customisation
To complete the look, we've added a stunning Jade Flash.
This introduces a subtle green reflective finish that interacts beautifully with the Blue Gradient beneath. Depending on how the light catches the lenses, the combination reveals different shades of blue and green, creating a beautiful contrast against the cool metallic Palladium frame.
The result is a pair of glasses where Japanese craftsmanship, advanced lens technology and bespoke colour customisation come together perfectly.
The Palladium finish provides an elegant foundation, the Blue Gradient introduces depth and colour, while the Jade Flash adds an unexpected finishing touch. And behind that beautiful appearance, the ZEISS AdaptiveSun technology ensures these lenses are designed to perform in changing outdoor light conditions.
And that's exactly what makes this combination so special.
The Matsuda frame delivers the craftsmanship, the ZEISS SmartLife lenses provide the optical performance, and the AdaptiveSun technology adds everyday practicality – all brought together with a distinctive Blue Gradient and Jade Flash.
From our practice in Lancashire to our client in Singapore, this is another example of how we create truly individual eyewear for customers around the world.
Beautiful Japanese design, innovative German lens technology and a bespoke combination of Palladium, Blue and Jade.
Because exceptional eyewear shouldn't just look incredible – it should be designed around the individual wearing it.
