Eyewear of the Week: Gold on gold – and completely one of a kind.
This week’s Eyewear of the Week is the incredible Esmont Habu in Gold, transformed into a truly bespoke piece of eyewear for one of our clients in the US.
The Habu is already a beautifully refined frame, with its minimal rimless construction allowing the lenses to become the star of the show. Its fine gold detailing brings a sense of luxury without overpowering the design – but for this particular pair, we wanted to take that gold theme even further.
We paired the frame with IOT lenses, customised with a beautiful Cinnamon to Rose gradient tint (40%–20%). The colour starts with a rich, warm cinnamon tone before gradually softening towards the bottom of the lens, creating a subtle warmth that works perfectly alongside the gold hardware.
We've then added brown photochromic technology, allowing the lenses to darken when exposed to UV outdoors. It means the character of these glasses changes depending on the environment – sophisticated and softly tinted indoors, before developing into a deeper sunglass when outside.
And then comes the finishing touch: Gold Flash.
The golden reflection ties the entire design together, catching the light against the cinnamon tones of the lenses and the gold frame to create a true gold-on-gold effect. Rather than the lens treatment and frame competing with one another, every element feels like it belongs together.
But what makes this pair particularly special is the level of customisation we've taken beyond the lens colour.
Because the Habu is rimless, we were able to create a completely custom lens shape for our client, giving the glasses their distinctive geometric silhouette. We then finished the lenses with beautifully faceted edges, creating crisp, angled surfaces around the lens that catch and reflect the light.
It's a detail that's easy to miss from a distance, but up close it completely transforms the eyewear. The edges almost behave like the facets of a gemstone, adding another dimension to the lenses and reinforcing the jewellery-like quality of the entire piece.
This is what we mean when we talk about truly custom eyewear. It's not simply choosing a frame and putting a prescription into it. The shape, colour, technology, finish and smallest details have all been considered together to create something specifically for the person who will wear it.
From our practice in Lancashire to a client in the United States, this Esmont Habu demonstrates just how far we can take eyewear customisation.
Custom shape. Custom colour. Faceted edges. Gold on gold. One truly individual pair of glasses.
